ERIKA SERBU – DIRECTOR & OWNER – ABSOLUTE DANCE STUDIO
Erika Serbu is a passionate advocate for encouraging and cultivating a love of dance. With over 30 years in the industry, the Ryerson University Theatre Dance program graduate and Ontario native, is an accomplished performer, instructor, choreographer and entrepreneur.
Alongside amazing training opportunities on scholarship in New York, and Los Angeles, some of Erika’s professional credits include Dora Mavor Moore Award winner Romeo and Juliet Remixed (Spark Productions), Seussical (Collaborators & Cast Workshop; Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty), Young People’s Theatre (Children Hour Productions), NBA Toronto Raptors Dance Pak, NBA Halftime Shows, Princess Cruise Lines (World Cruise), Fashion Cares (Debrah Cox, Lil’ Kim), Calgary Cares, Toronto Fringe Festival “fFIDA”, KiSS 92 Awards (Aaron Carter), and industrial performances for Nike, Shoppers Drug Mart, Aveda, Hudson’s Bay, SickKids Foundation, Marc Anthony, MAC & The Outdoorsman Show.
Television and Film credits include; CBC, TSN, ESPN, Bravo, Much Music, City TV and the Canadian Film Centre.
Erika resides in Calgary Alberta with her husband and three beautiful children – her greatest accomplishment to date! She has been the proud studio owner of Absolute Dance Inc for 15 years, where her platform is shared with hundreds of students each day as they learn and grow in their creativity and love for the art form. Her students have gone on to continue their training in professional dance studies at recognized post secondary institutions across North America and on to dance and perform in the commercial industry, professional arts community and companies at world stage levels.
Erika has had the privilege of teaching and choreographing throughout Canada. She maintains and enhances her professional development and education by participating in workshops, master classes and teaching seminars in L.A, New York, Vancouver and London, England.
Erika strives to instill in her students the importance of collaboration and teamwork being a driving force by encouraging TEAM = together everyone achieves more. No matter what age, level or style; process means everything, the end result is simply the cherry on top!
- Our students are provided with the opportunity to work with guest teachers, choreographers and industry professionals across the globe.
- Our students have gone on to continue their training in professional dance studies at recognized post secondary institutions such as Ryerson University, York University, The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, George Brown College and Sheraton College.
- Our graduates have continued dance in the commercial industry nation wide working in film, on sitcoms, music videos, for cruise lines and with professional dance companies.
- Our dancers have received scholarships to workshops and conventions that travel Nation wide such as Artist Simply Human, Nuvo, 24/7 Dance, The Pulse, Velocity, Jump, Groove Street, Pure Dance and Triple Threat.
- Dancers have received scholarships to Summer Intensive Programs at prestigious Ballet Schools such as the Joffrey Ballet School and The National Ballet of Canada.
